How payment works
I work with the major Mexican and international insurers, on direct billing. Here is what that means in practice and what to have ready before scheduling surgery.
I handle the paperwork
Working with your insurer means the administrative side is on me: I complete the medical reports your company requests, manage the authorization for the procedure, and submit the claim directly.
You do not have to pay everything up front or chase a reimbursement afterwards. For a patient working through a cancer diagnosis, that removes a burden that arrives at the worst possible moment.
It also means admission takes place at a hospital within your policy’s network. In my case, Centro Médico ABC.
Your letter of payment is accepted toward the fees
When your insurer authorizes the procedure it issues a letter of payment, stating how much of the professional fees it will cover. I accept that letter.
With some policies it covers the full amount. With others it covers part, and the balance is settled privately. This depends not on the company but on the type of policy you purchased: two patients with the same insurer can receive different letters.
If there is a balance in your case, you will know as soon as your insurer issues the letter, before the surgery is scheduled. Never at the end.
What I need from you
The name of your insurer and your policy number. With those I begin the pre-authorization process with your company.
If you already have a letter of authorization or a letter of payment, bring it. If not, I will tell you how to request one.
If you have no insurance
I also see patients without a policy, on a self-pay basis. Write to me and I will give you an estimate for your case before you book.
Insurers
With these I work on direct billing. If your insurer is not listed here, I can still treat you: in those cases you cover the procedure and file the reimbursement with your company.
If you have questions about your coverage, write to me with the name of your insurer and the type of policy. We will review it before your appointment.
