Da Vinci Robotic Surgery
Minimally invasive oncologic surgery with the Da Vinci system: millimetric incisions, three-dimensional vision and precise instrument control.
The Da Vinci system allows surgery through incisions of just a few millimeters. The surgeon controls the instruments from a console with magnified three-dimensional vision; the instruments reproduce the movement of the hand with greater range and no tremor. It is not an autonomous robot: every movement is performed by the surgeon.
The indication is defined case by case, based on tumor type and stage, previous surgeries and the patient’s overall condition. Not every case is a candidate, and saying so directly is part of the evaluation.
In appropriately selected cases there is usually less bleeding, less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay and a faster return to normal activity, compared with open surgery.
